As I was saying yesterday (see? I came back like I promised!), Bikram makes me hungry.  About twenty minutes before class is over, I usually start thinking about what I’m going to be having for dinner (or lunch).  When I’m feeling like I’m going to melt into a puddle, it usually ends up being my saving grace.

Last weekend, I made myself banana stuffed french toast.  I peeled a banana and quickly seared it in a non-stick pan.  Meanwhile, I soaked the bread (Alvarado Street, whole grain) in an egg and almond milk with some cinnamon, agave nectar, and vanilla.  After cooking the bread in the pan, I put the banana in between the slices of french toast and smushed (technical term) the sandwich together.

Pulled the sangwich out of the pan, cut it in half, and threw some freshly sliced strawberries over the top with peanut butter and cinammon.

YUM.  Definitely beats some lame protein smoothie.

Okay, fast forward to today.  I met up with one of my good friends Willow for dinner at Cafe Gitane. Our families grew up together during summers in Montauk.  Willow is from Cali, but came to NYC for school so I get to hang with her whenever I want (although we do not get together as often as we should). Our families have gotten together for the past 20+ summers, and bonded over our love for Dreesen’s donuts and fried chicken from Kraft (maybe no fried chicken for me this past summer).

This was our second time getting together at Cafe Gitane, and it did not disappoint.  I am obsessed with this place.  Mostly due to their avocado toast that tastes like it was touched by heaven.

Dinner was vegetarian Moroccan couscous, which took a close second to the avocado toast.
